Table 2 Trial inclusion and exclusion criteria

From: Recruiting equal numbers of indigenous and non-indigenous participants to a ‘polypill’ randomized trial

Inclusion criteria

High CVD risk (5-year CVD risk equal or greater than 15%, either on the basis of a documented history of CVD or estimated from the NZ modified Framingham equation [16])

All polypill ingredients indicated

Uncertainty whether therapy best provided as a polypill or with usual care

Participant able to give informed consent

Exclusion criteria

Age under 18 years

Age over 80 years (or over 70 years for men with no history of CVD because the risks of aspirin may be greater than the benefits of aspirin in this population [17])

Contraindication to polypill component

Congestive heart failure

Medication change unsuitable for patient
